REPORT OF “National Hands-on Workshop on Breast Cytology and Guided FNAC” on 14th and 15th June 2019

The workshop was conducted in association with Indian Academy of cytologists, IAC-KC and KCIAPM.
The programme began with registration of delegates followed by breakfast. The delegates came from various private hospitals and medical colleges across the country. About 86 delegates including consultants, teaching faculty, post-graduates attended and participated in workshop.

The workshop began with invoking the blessing of the almighty. It was followed by Welcome Speech by Dr Vijay Shankar S, Prof and HOD Pathology. Formal inauguration was done by lighting of the lamp under the presence of dignitaries – Dr M G Shivaramu, Dean, Health Sciences (Medical) Adichunchanagiri University(ACU), Dr Dharitri Bhat, Moderator of workshop, Dr Meena Pangarkar,, DR CK Subbaraya , Registrar- ACU, Dr T M Manohar, Superintendent AH&RC, Dr Vijay Shankar S, Dr Ramesh, Observer from Karnataka Medical Council and two delegates of the workshop.

After the inauguration, the release was souvenir was done by the dignitaries on the dais and the faculty of the workshop. Dr M G Shivaramu, Dean Health sciences ( Medical), Adichunchanagiri University addressed the gathering followed by address by Dr C K Subbaraya, Registrar Adichunchanagiri University. The inauguration ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr Sanjay M, Associate Professor , Department of Pathology.

After the inauguration , the workshop on guided FNAC began with introduction by Dr Dharitri Bhat. Various aspects of the techniques of guided FNAC and FNAC of lung, liver, lymphnodes and retroperitoneal masses were discussed in detail by all the speakers.

After the lecture sessions of the day one, there was slide viewing sessions at the  practical lecture halls in the department of Pathology. The delegates were overwhelmed with the availability of the slides as well as all the faculty who were present there to clarify their doubts. The day ended at 7.00 PM.

The workshop began on day 2 with the introduction to workshop on breast cytology by Dr Amita K . The FNAC of the entire spectrum of breast lesions were discussed in great detail and also regarding core needle biopsy of breast masses. The WORKSHOP ended successfully by informal vote of thanks followed by collection of participant feedback forms, post test questions and distribution of certificates

After the lecture sessions, there was a demonstration of the difficult slides with the help of projection microscope which was followed by the slide viewing sessions in the practical halls.

Feedback analysis showed appreciation of the Hands-on workshop on cytology. Hospitality and arrangements were very much appreciated. The request for conduction of many more such workshops were made.
