July 2016 : Report On National Hands-on Workshop on Fluid & Breast Cytology

REPORT ON WORKSHOP

VENUE: Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences, B G Nagara, Karnataka, India

Sponsors – Sri Adichunchanagiri Skikshana trust, Karnataka Chapter of  Indian Association of Pathologits and Microbiologists, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.

The workshop was conducted in association with Indian Academy of cytologists, IAC-KC and KCIAPM.

The programme began at registration of delegates followed by breakfast. The delegates came from various private hospitals and medical colleges across the country. We are happy to say that the delegates had come from eight different states and one international delegate from Oman.

About 80 delegates including consultants, teaching faculty, post-graduates attended and participated in workshop.

Formal inauguration was done under the presence of dignitaries – Dr M G Shivaramu Principal, AIMS, Dr MM Kamal, President- IAC, Dr M A Pangarkar, moderator for day one of workshop, Dr Dharitri Bhat, moderator for Day 2 of the workshop, Dr Manohar TM , Medical superintendent, Dr Vijay Shankar S, Prof and HOD of Department of Pathology, Dr Nalini Krishnan, Scientic committee coordinator and Dr Somashekharaiah, Observer from Karnataka Medical Council.

The workshop  began with invoking the blessing of the almighty. It was followed by Welcome Speech by Dr Vijay Shankar S, Prof and HOD Pathology.

After the inauguration , the   workshop on fluid cytology began with introduction by Dr M A Pangarkar. The speakers for the day one  were as follows.

After the lecture sessions of the day one, there was  slide viewing sessions at the  practical lecture halls in the department of Pathology. The delegates were overwhelmed with the availability of the slides as well, as all the faculty who were present there to clarify their doubts. The day ended at 6.00PM.

Day 2

 The workshop began on day 2 with the introduction to workshop on breast cytology by Dr Dhaitri Bhat.

After the lecture sessions, there was a demonstration of the difficult slides with the help of projection microscope in the department of pathology and which was followed by the slide viewing sessions in the practical halls.

The WORKSHOP ended successfully by  informal vote of thanks by followed by collection of participant feedback forms, post test questions and distribution of certificates.

Feedback analysis showed appreciation the concept of Hands-on workshop on cytology. as well as speakers from. Hospitality and arrangements were very much appreciated. The request for conduction of many more such workshops were done.
